Samuel Allen, B.S., Field Biologist

Sam Allen is a field biologist for Martin & Nicholson Environmental Consultants, LLC.  His interest in the natural environment and ecosystem function directed his academic training toward Conservation Biology and Land and Natural Resource Management.  As a student, Sam instructed a soil science lab and course, becoming adept in characterization of physical and chemical soil properties. He also worked on bighorn sheep demographic research that helped regional wildlife managers in southwest Montana attain accurate annual bighorn sheep parameter estimates.  In his professional career, Mr. Allen has conducted vegetation surveys, habitat assessments, ground-based surveys for big game species, and aerial and ground-based surveys for small and large bird species. He helped design and implement annual management plans for bighorn sheep and mountain goat populations in Region 3 of southwestern Montana.  He has been trained and involved in capturing, processing, and translocating bighorn sheep, as well as greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophaisanus), is proficient in avian point-count surveys throughout the Great Basin and Western alpine ecosystems, and is trained in basilic venipuncture blood sample collection of avian species.
